Pardot Scoring & Grading Best Practices: Pardot Score Degradation And Why It’s Important

Over time, your Pardot account may start experiencing some massive scores on Prospects. While Pardot continues to release updates to help us keep things clean, many Pardot admins need to have a solution to keep scores under control.

Does This Look Familiar? It may be time to consider a Score Degradation Strategy

What is a Score Degradation Strategy?

Simply put, this is the practice of resetting the score of your Pardot Prospects to provide more accurate and meaningful data to your Sales team.

In Pardot, this may be creating a rule that reset’s a Prospect Score to a number that keeps the value under control.

For a Simple Degradation Rule – Try adding an Automation rule like this!

By Design, Pardot is flexible and varies from business to business. While this specific rule may or may not make sense for the way that your company is using the Platform, understanding the value of the ‘Adjust Prospect Score’ is an important feature to understand as a Pardot Admin.

Some other examples we’ve seen:

  • When: A Prospect Score is Greater than 10,000; Alert a User and Adjust Prospect Score to X
  • When: A Custom field value equals ‘something’; Adjust Prospect Score to X
  • When: Prospect time was last active is greater than 365 days; Adjust Prospect Score to X
